Why Join Us?
Playing in an ensemble is a crucial aspect of a musician’s development yet many students miss out on opportunities to join a regular musical ensemble throughout their learning journey.
Being part of an ensemble or orchestra helps you to improve and grow as a musician in so many ways. You will learn to listen, blend and communicate musically with others. Melbourne Community Cellists offers students of all abilities a unique opportunity to experience the joys and challenges of ensemble playing with a group of fellow cellists. Being part of an ensemble will significantly boost your motivation and enthusiasm for practising and performing and give you an enhanced sense of commitment and responsibility towards learning and playing your part within your group. Students will also improve their essential skills like sight reading, intonation, rhythmic precision, and the ability to adapt to different musical styles.
We learn new repertoire every term, making it possible to join us in any term throughout the year. We hold Open Rehearsal days once a term and have an End of Year Concert at the end of the year.
Melbourne Community Cellists aims to provide a fun and welcoming platform for all cellists to connect, play and grow together musically.
Make lasting friendships and connect with cello peers from around Melbourne.
If you have been learning the cello for at least 12-18 months there is an ensemble for you to join!
Create music together and learn new skills with our supportive and all inclusive cello ensembles. We welcome cellists and cello students of different skill levels, ages and backgrounds. Our cellists come from all over Melbourne and beyond.
Hello, I’m Sharon!
I’m thrilled to share my journey with you as a dedicated and passionate professional cellist and teacher. I believe in nurturing a deep love and understanding of music in every student I teach. With over 35 years of cello performing and teaching experience, my commitment to teaching and performing goes beyond imparting technical skills – it’s about fostering a lifelong appreciation for cello playing and musicianship.
The Melbourne Community Cellists commenced in January 2024 and was born out of an idea where Melbourne cellists of all ages and ability levels could meet and play together in weekly rehearsals with a cello ensemble. Here they can learn, share and enjoy their musical experiences together conducted by Sharon; a highly experienced and professional cellist and teacher.
Melbourne Community Cellists aim to offer exciting playing opportunities for student cellists in Melbourne. Cellists can look forward to a dedicated space and group specifically tailored towards their playing level where they can come together to learn and rehearse together regularly.
